ReplyDeleteI am at my wit's end to hear that there is still something to do, like educating 7 billion human beings in a couple of months (or weeks, or days...)no way. WE ARE ALREADY OVERSATURATED WITH INFO AND WE KNOW NOTHING.
there is sun today. it has been very rare in the last 3 months. and there is no snow whatsoever. the city is so ugly. everything is fast becoming so ugly.
death, already, all around, everywhere. and if I talk about it, people either tell me that they do not have the stomach to think about it, or that I am crazy and SO PESSIMISTIC! educate?
I have an unease feeling that spring 2012 will be, to all intents and purposes, the one that Rachel Carson predicted.

Demand quick and decisive action from those among us who have power and resources invested in them to carry out an agreed upon mandate to protect our health and safety.
We must demand the same of our neighbors, and of ourselves.

Watch an old video clip of Rene Levesque react with alarm, compassion, and reason as he talks to some reporters about tragic news, and hopes for working towards a positive future.
Watch him work his way from hopelessness to constructive hope in just a few sentences... he did it his way, very admirable.

I MYSELF AM IN A STATE OF PERSONAL ALARM, MY VOICE IS HOARSE FROM ALL THE AIR POLLUTION AROUND IN MY HOME, MY LOCAL OFFICIAL AIR MONITOR IS NOT WORKING. A REGIONAL AIR MONITOR SHOWS UNHEALTHY LEVELS OF PARTICULATE POLLUTION. I COUGH, I KNOW WHY. OVERWEIGHT AND OVERPOWERED CARS, TRUCKS, AND MOTORCYCLES ROAR BY. EVERY ONE OF THEM IS CAUSING ACIDIFICATION BECAUSE THE ACIDIC FILTH WITH EITHER LAND ON THE PLANTS AND KILL THE PLANTS, OR THE ACIDIC FILTH WILL FALL INTO THE OCEAN AND KILL IT WITH ACID. ALL THE WHILE MY PUBLIC OFFICIALS WILL SCURRY ABOUT DENYING ABILITY TO STOP THIS.
SO I DO ADMIRE THE WAY RENE LEVESQUE USED HIS MIND, HIS HEART, AND WORDS TO GET THROUGH A VERY DIFFICULT TIME.

As a bit of a thought experiment, imagine if you will what could possibly cause "the power's that be" to continue with this high speed path into ruin. What could possibly cause them to become so self-destructive. Afterall, they need to breath, drink and eat too. What would motivate this sort of behaviour. Greed is the obvious answer, but does not accurately explain the whole picture. They are not stupid, they know if all the ecosystems collapse then they die too. Think on this for a while and see if any ideas come to mind.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've thought about that question and discussed it with numerous people quite often. There are a number of explanations (and probably more than these):
ReplyDelete1. They actually are stupid. People, including the elites, have sown the seeds of their own destruction many times in human history, even though all the red flags were evident.
2. They think everyone else will die but they will somehow escape. I read today that Cameron just bought 2400 acres in New Zealand.
3. They are pathological psychopaths who care nothing even for their own children.
4. They believe it's not that bad.
