Of course, what Keith says is certainly true, but it's not the whole truth, and that whole truth is that the Dems, and those who call themselves Dems and support the Dem party, are equally as delusional and contradictory in their belief and support of an institution that only seeks to do them further harm while enriching itself.
ReplyDeleteThe two party duopoly is a brilliant ploy, and Keith's lopsided ranting only serves to support the scam. It's why I tuned him out long ago. Ditto for Stewart.
Oh, I agree with you about the partisan sleight and I stopped listening to Keith even before I turned off the teevee completely. But I came across this video and thought the "Lotto Nation" explanation for people to irrationally act against their own interest was compelling. I've long felt that many people cling to some fantasy that they are going to be the next Donald Trump or Sarah Palin and that is why they tolerate their odiousness.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a post about this awhile back. We have conservative family members who are convinced that one day they will be rich, so don't mess with the rich fat cats because one day they too will be a rich fat cat. And yes, they play the lottery in the hopes of winning someday.
ReplyDeleteIf you think about it, Lotto is a poor analogy. If you play the lottery, one dollar a week, say, you're not really sacrificing much, if anything at all, for a potentially, albeit highly improbable, substantial return on investment, whereas, if you subscribe to the rags to riches myth, and direct your entire life's energy to attempting to attain the illusion that is the "American Dream," you've sacrificed everything, your entire physical and psychical life, for a payoff that is equally as improbable as winning the Lotto.
ReplyDeleteI play the Lotto. One dollar a week, never more, because although purchasing extra tickets does increase the odds of winning, those odds are still absurdly ridiculous.
I no longer devote my life energy to pursuing the scam that is the "American Dream."
