We Don't Need No Stinkin' Permits!
Waaaah! I have so much to write about dying trees but things are happening too fast at Occupy Wall Street to keep up. Mayor Bloomberg has renewed bleating about restrictions including a preposterous requirement for permits to march, which annoys me no end...and then I read this extremely disconcerting account of her arrest, by Naomi Wolf, published in the UK Guardian of all places, where she has plenty to say about that.

ReplyDeleteSimple, Gail--Canada is not an empire. Have you ever been to Ottawa? I visited there back in 2006. Very pleasant city--but the remarkable thing is that there isn't a security barrier in site and the police presence is nearly invisible.
Contrast that to our increasingly fortified capital, where I have to hear security announcements blaring over the Washington Metro's PA system nearly every day as I commute to and from work.
