Farewell

Of course this blog is mainly about trees that are fast vanishing from exposure to toxic greenhouse gas emissions. However there are many other species of which I am also inordinately fond that are rapidly heading towards extinction, and one of those is oysters.

And so when Doc arrived to visit from Cape Cod with two dozen Wellfleet oysters on ice, it was in the context of this recent article about the bivalves vanishing in contaminated waters that I broiled them with extra reverence. Just a dab of butter mashed with crushed garlic, anchovies, and parsley as they cook makes them luscioiusly complex. This was our late-night snack yesterday.

Earth has given us so many gifts and we have not been properly grateful, or modest in our use of them.
