Genetically modified trees for fuel.

I wonder how many clear cuttings of these GM eucalyptus trees will grow on the same plot of land before the nutrients give out resulting in stunted growth and disease. The number for timber grade Georgia pines is about 3. Pines still grow but they're just pulpwood.catman306https://www.blogger.com/profile/04670081770711560337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-43736501558542927532012-11-15T15:50:54.770-05:002012-11-15T15:50:54.770-05:00it makes me think humans are insane

When your Energy-Return-on-Energy-Invested drops from 10 to one to only 3 to one (roughly the difference between the deepest most difficult lightsweet crude and tarsands) you are burning more than three times as much to get the same usable product, and whatever you were doing in the sense of powering the economy is now producing 30% more pollution to do it. Economic collapse is not going nearly fast enough to compensate for the increasing dirtiness of our energy sources.

--Gaianne Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-27137386867802240822012-11-14T20:02:09.045-05:002012-11-14T20:02:09.045-05:00David not a night goes by that I don't wonder ...David not a night goes by that I don't wonder in the middle of its darkness why my daughter got cancer.Gail Zawackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01800944469843206253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-67250190699731328422012-11-14T19:57:48.827-05:002012-11-14T19:57:48.827-05:00REPORT OF BOTANICALS IN CRISIS, SANTA BARBARA, CAL...REPORT OF BOTANICALS IN CRISIS, SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA 2012 BY D T LANGE

OBSERVERED FLORA IN CRITICAL CONDITION: DEADFALLS OF LEAVES; MASSIVE DEAFALLS OF FRUITS, SEEDS, SEED PODS, SEED CLUSTERS, FLOWERS, BLOSSOMS, PETALS, FRONDS, AND NEEDLES.

L = LEAVES
F = FRUITS
B= BLOSSOMS OR FLOWERS 0R FLOWER PODS
S= SEEDS OR SEED PODS
N= NEEDLES
BP= BARK PEEL

SPECIES OBSERVED, WITH ALPHA CHARACTERS DENOTING CONDITION.

AMARYLLIS: B
ASH: L, B, S
AVOCADO: L, F
BOX TREES: L
CITRUS: L, F
CONIFER: N
CORAL: L, B
FIG-FICUS: L, F
JACARANDA: L, B
MAGNOLIA: L, B
OAK: L, B, S
OLEANDER: L, B
PINE: N, BP
SAPOTE: L, F
SILK OAK: L
WILLOW: L
PLUM: F

Note: Many of these botanicals observed were in well watered areas, received weekly attention by “gardeners”, and in full view of any, and all professional arborist, botanist, or licensed landscaper.
Some were on private property, some were on public easements or public park land.
No special effort was needed to observe these plants, or the area around them.
DT Lange 2012.
Wind Spirit Keeperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08593821563591272476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-75397213519686373662012-11-14T19:57:01.866-05:002012-11-14T19:57:01.866-05:00Thanks, Gail for mentioning the "influence of...Thanks, Gail for mentioning the "influence of illusions" in the context of mass psychology. Making it into wood pellets for use as a coal replacement makes use of it. Turning some of it into biomass for fuel makes some sense. Burning it in wood stoves and wood furnaces makes some sense. Particularly if there's no electricity at your house and it's below freezing outside.

Letting this wood rot in piles in the atmosphere makes no sense. Burying it in a landfill makes no sense.

Michelle, the air is already unbreathable; that's why the trees are dying. And smoky wood fires are the results of operator error, if the fire is hot enough and the fuel is dry, a wood stove makes no smoke.

What do you propose should be done with all of this waste, maybe millions of trees?
catman306https://www.blogger.com/profile/04670081770711560337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-7951654034073068122012-11-11T18:26:17.894-05:002012-11-11T18:26:17.894-05:00It seems they have a tendency to explode, too: ht...It seems they have a tendency to explode, too: http://climate-connections.org/2012/11/10/huge-explosion-rips-through-europes-first-biomass-power-plant/Gail Zawackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01800944469843206253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-29390335958110962632012-11-11T18:23:13.902-05:002012-11-11T18:23:13.902-05:00burning wood on a large scale is not a good idea b...burning wood on a large scale is not a good idea because of the smoke and particles. actually, most good ideas of the past are turning out to be bad today because of the sheer number of human beings who need energy to survive. in the area where I live in the city, if only a few people burn wood at any given time, the air is not breathable.michele/montrealnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-5793033312951846902012-11-11T17:49:59.500-05:002012-11-11T17:49:59.500-05:00It's a really good decade or two to be heating...It's a really good decade or two to be heating with wood. I suggest that everyone who can, get themselves a wood burner.

The British electric industry seems to be converting from coal to wood pellets to run their boilers. A new factory in south Georgia will be turning pine trees into wood pellets for the Brits. Cheaper than coal! Maybe they can turn the dead and fallen trees in the NE US into wood pellets to replace coal. Someone, please build a facility to do this in the NE.
