Google the sixth great extinction and you will find much information (if you can stand to read it!)

Also as you have found, there is so much that isn't being reported. Other than anecdotal evidence from Susan Shamel, who has a camp in NH, I have not heard of any problems with the White Birch - although it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

If you find any published corroboration please forward it to me!Gail Zawackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01800944469843206253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-20388192014708140642010-09-23T06:44:28.959-04:002010-09-23T06:44:28.959-04:00The EAARTH MATTERS

This past year my work called for me to drive through the White Mountain National Forest twice a week. The WMNF is home to a population of White Birch which is the state tree of New Hampshire. The death of this species in the Pinkham Notch area is stunning to me. I asked around for an explanation and found little.

The state tree of New Hampshire experiences a unprecedented die-back and I cannot find any press, I cannot find any research reports on this topic.

Has anyone written a report tracking/tracing the history of manmade die offs? In North America alone:
- natives decimated by diasese, white man encroachment, loss of habitat....
- buffalo and tall grass prarie
- destruction of forests and carrier pigeon
- destruction of lower mississippi river delta
- The big story in New Hampshire now if the loss of eel grass and oyster populations in the Great Bay
- how many bird species could we list?

ChrisChristopher Yaunnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-68118377272122263382010-09-16T21:27:40.920-04:002010-09-16T21:27:40.920-04:00I second Richard Pauli's call for a book. They haven't yet noticed that the trees around them are dying too. For the past 20 years I've watched the woods around my house disappear. You've found the culprit and I thank you. Others that may know can't speak without jeopardizing their jobs. A book will legitimize your synthesis and discovery and get the word out.
catman

Like your friend Rita, I too must always use anonymous postings.

I wish all of the different fonts that you use in your blog were of the same point number, some are too small to read, followed by large type.

But the content keeps me coming back!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-87980743535582069762010-09-16T21:02:48.247-04:002010-09-16T21:02:48.247-04:00Haha Rita, Poe's Law strikes again!

But free!

I never watch the teevee but on the plane it was on the back of the seat in front of me, and full of ads from BP about how they are cleaning up, and biofuel companies about how they are going to make the US energy free.

That must be why they have the barf bags underneath.Gail Zawackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01800944469843206253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-55989254510599432802010-09-16T17:42:07.667-04:002010-09-16T17:42:07.667-04:00Gail - Well, yes I know that. It will be interesting when TSHTF (which I realize is happening as we speak) enough that Big Business finally can no longer deny that it is cutting its own throat (er, profits, that is) although Nero is most famous for fiddling, so who am I kidding? Right?
Rita
PS I guess I am a dork, but the profile thingy is a problem. However, I have been planning to approach the organic gardening organizations, who are being quite disadvantaged by reduced yields that they can't improve with chemical fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides. They are stuck with the same air pollution. It's possible once they realize it they will have a large enough coalition to really make some noise, because organic is a fair big industry now itself.

There will still be substantial tendency to deny however. There's the rub!Gail Zawackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01800944469843206253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5549306427964459740.post-44117254081144688072010-09-16T09:26:23.983-04:002010-09-16T09:26:23.983-04:00Gail - I wonder about the nutritional content of o...Gail - I wonder about the nutritional content of ozone affected crops.
